Workshops

Yin Yoga Workshop - The 1st Saturday of each month

Yin Yoga: mindfulness, a conscious relaxing of effort, a softening, a cultivation of kindness, pausing to listen within, the ability to be fully present.

Yin Yoga: a deliciously deep and mindful practice in which floor-based postures are held for 3-5 minutes. This allows the body to slowly stretch and unwind. Knots in muscle fibres may release and energy can flow freely throughout the body.  You might find yourself feeling ‘lifted’ and ‘light’ after a Yin Yoga class. By staying we can enable stillness to arrive in the physical body. Through this stilling we create a space to witness the sensations in the body and fluctuations of mind, emotions and breath.

The Yin practice invites us to explore inner landscapes with a quality of self-reflection, accepting and accommodating that which arises free of judgment or attachment – with equanimity. We learn to pay attention to what is, as it is  – with an attitude of kindness.

Life is precious – it is the rarest gem and to be granted the blessing of a human form is a great privilege. To truly recognise the preciousness of this human body requires a real effort to…slow down: especially in a busy city like London where there is so much speed and so much sound.

As we witness our physical, emotional, and mental experiences, we become present and anchored into the now. With this rootedness can come a sense of lightness of being and deep inner joy. Yin Yoga is beneficial and suitable for all levels of Yoga practitioner. Come and experience it.

The workshop will include a healing mix of: Pranayama (breathing exercises), Meditation, cleansing Asana (physical postures) and deeply restorative Yoga Nidra (guided relaxation) with the added bonus of a healing Gong sound bath in Shavasana (final relaxation) to restore, renew and refresh.

Classes

Qigong

White Crane Qigong
Instructor: Aidan Spencer (Osteopath)

On the morning of Tuesday April 9th (9:30 – 10:30am) a new Qigong session will begin in which I will teach the ‘White Crane’ sequence. This comprises 5 short forms (series of movements) designed to provide a complete system of exercise which takes about 25 minutes to perform in total. The forms will be taught as movement initially followed by the ‘internal’ instructions for directing the mind/breath within the movements, making the exercise into Qigong proper. To find out more about Qigong please go to www.thesunflowercentre.co.uk/37.html

The more challenging movements can be adapted to make this exercise is suitable for people of all ages. Once learnt, you can practice White Crane wherever you happen to be to the great benefit of your physical and mental wellbeing. It also provide a useful window into the Chinese tradition of ‘internal’ exercise, offering an interesting contrast to Western approaches to exercise and health that don’t especially seek to nurture the relationship that exists between the mind and body. Qigong exercises the body in a manner that you are unlikely to have experienced previously - it is simultaneously gentle but also has the potential to reach deeply.

Beginners are welcome and enquiries can be directed to aidan@thesunflowercentre.co.uk
