The Story so far…
The plans were laid in the summer of 2017 and work commenced in the autumn. Since then, our gardening team at the Sunflower Centre has created a kitchen garden to offer educational, well-being and mindfulness activities as well as an opportunity for local individuals to join in communal gardening.
The garden space was designed by Elwood Amey, a local gardener and a trained homeopath, who has also run Forest Schools for children in his time. Elwood managed and worked alongside several volunteers to transform the side plot next to the Sunflower kitchen/staffroom. We now have a spacious outside classroom with raised beds in a series of terraces that make best use of the sloped ground.
The Covid lockdown has meant that the garden was slightly abandoned since 2020 and we only started to revisit gardening this year, by which time the sowing season was almost over….
We are currently a small group of local residents, who want to do some weekly gardening together and learn together.
With or without experience, you are most welcome to have a go or have a chat or just a cup of tea.
