I teach apparatus Pilates at the Sunflower centre but am also a qualified matwork teacher. I am certified by and a member of the Pilates Foundation, which is committed to training of the highest standard. I am also a certified Pink Ribbon instructor, offering Pilates-based breast cancer rehabilitation.
I teach an evolved form of Pilates which is flexible and versatile making it a suitable approach for all ages and abilities. Its versatility makes it an excellent rehabilitative method for recovery from injury, surgery or childbirth. It is also effective for enhancing athletic performance and improving posture. Pilates also facilitates body awareness and enhances well-being.
Prior to my Pilates training, I worked as a Clinical Psychologist in the NHS for twenty years, specializing in Women’s Health. I have always been interested in the mind-body relationship. Most of my work as a psychologist was with clients who were experiencing problems relating to their bodies/health. Now, as a Pilates teacher, I emphasise the mindful movement aspect of the method with the aim of enhancing mind-body integration. This can benefit mind and body.
My psychology training enriches my teaching of Pilates with all clients. My intention is to facilitate clients to enjoy their bodies, get the most out of them and enhance freedom and ease of movement.
