Dr Emilie Bourke

I’m a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in supporting teenagers and young adults to tackle mental health challenges and build coping skills, so they can feel hopeful as they look ahead to their bright future.

Alongside my private practice, I am a Highly Specialist NHS clinician within a South London team that brings psychological therapy to Sixth Form students in their school setting. This means that I’m ideally suited to support young people as they navigate academic, social, and emotional crossroads. I work alongside them to achieve positive change in experiences such as: anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, demotivation, intense fluctuations in emotions, peer difficulties, and procrastination.

I’m HCPC registered and have 8 years’ experience of offering evidence-based psychological care to young people: supporting teenagers, young adults, and their families across a range of inpatient mental health, A&E crisis care, and community contexts. I’m trained in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Compassion Focused Therapy. I integrate ideas from across these models to ensure that sessions fit with each individual’s goals, as well as their strengths, interests, personality, and values.

You may have started searching for support for yourself / your young person for the first time today, or perhaps you’ve had negative experiences of seeking help in the past and are thinking about trying again. I genuinely care about and enjoy working with young people. The sessions I offer are confidential, without judgement, and defined by working together as a team.

I’m mindful that therapy sessions are just 50 minutes in a busy week. I ensure a joined-up approach through my strong skills in liaising with parents/carers, school teams, and other professionals. I empower young people to ask me questions and practise new skills in between sessions. My ultimate aim is for them to feel able to take forward what they have learned in therapy, long after sessions with me have come to an end.
