Dr Polly Cocker
I am a Clinical Psychologist with 10 years of experience across NHS settings. I work with adults experiencing a range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, mood and personality difficulties, relationship problems, those navigating traumatic experiences, or feeing stuck at a particular point in life. I have specialist experience in working holistically with people experiencing physical symptoms and chronic health issues, exploring the link between the mind and body. I offer support with perinatal and parental mental health, working alongside adults where there are attachment-based difficulties and stresses related to the transition to parenthood.
I am registered with the HCPC and currently work within the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust as a Highly Specialist clinician, alongside my private practice. I have a Postgraduate Diploma in the Foundations of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. As a Clinical Psychologist I am trained across different therapeutic modalities and I offer therapy primarily from a relational and Psychodynamic approach, which has been the focus of my further training.
This way of working pays attention both to what is going on in your life in the here-and-now, and your unconscious feelings and experiences, which may have earlier roots. Bringing this into awareness through the safety of the therapeutic relationship can help to deepen an understanding of yourself, and the way you are with others, to explore your feelings and work through sticking points together. Doing so can provide you with more freedom in moving forward, to create meaningful connections and relationships with life. This exploratory way of working may sound helpful to you, or be of interest to those who have previously tried therapies such as CBT, and feel they wound benefit from a different approach.
I offer both long-term and brief therapy, and we can discuss what will work best for you during an initial consultation. My current availability at the Sunflower Centre is on a Friday afternoon. If you would like to get in touch, then please find my contact information below. I would be glad to have a brief telephone call as a starting point, to think about what has brought you to therapy at this time, and how I may be of help. Fees are available on request.
