JOANNA LAW
she/her
I have worked in the Mental Health field since 1996 and qualified as a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist in November 2015. I have experience of working in both Adult and Child Mental Health Services within the NHS. I am an accredited member of the Association of Family Therapy (AFT) and UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) I now work as an Independent Psychotherapist.
I can offer systemic therapeutic work to individuals, couples, and families. My approach is an integrative one, grounded firmly in Social Constructionist and Narrative Theory. I pay particular attention to childhood development, attachment and family scripts. I invite my clients to embark on a collaborative journey with myself, to think about personal and /or relational difficulties and to co-create a context where desired change can happen.
I offer therapeutic work for: relationship difficulties, depression, bereavement/loss, abuse, anxiety, anger problems, addiction problems, eating difficulties, post-natal depression and mood changes associated with menopause. I also have experience of working with families, where older adults are experiencing memory problems.
I believe the Therapeutic Relationship is crucial to any successful course of therapy. I find the practice of Mindfulness to be very helpful in the development of this relationship and will offer this as a therapeutic tool, where appropriate.
When working with children, young people and their families, I will sometimes suggest less conversational tools, as a way of exploring relationships and difficulty, such as the use of toys, drawing, music or sculpts.
Please contact me via email initially, then after a brief phone consultation, I will invite you to attend a face to face session. Here we can explore further the issues which you would like to bring, and you can decide whether you feel you would like to proceed with future sessions.
I can be contacted via E-mail on jolawtherapy@protonmail.com
