Penny Heywood RS Hom, IBCLC
Classical Homeopath and Certified Lactatio Consultant
I am an IBCLC Lactation Consultant. Following this time of social distancing and isolation I think it is more important than ever to reach out to mums who are struggling to breastfeed. Breast milk will offer some protection to your baby against many infections. The mum will make antibodies which are then passed on through the breast milk to the baby. I believe that breastfeeding support can make a huge difference if mums are struggling.
I am a mother of 2 children and I have lived in Brockley since 2005. I really enjoy being part of the unique and diverse community here.
My passion for homeopathy started over 10 years ago when I experienced the benefits for myself. I felt compelled to give up a career in marketing and communications to study Homeopathy at Westminster University. Since graduating in 2009, I have been practicing as a Classical Homeopath in Brockley where I have had the privilege of working with a whole variety of clients presenting with numerous ailments including:
- Skin – ringworm, eczema, urticarial, abscess, cold sores, ulcers, impetigo
- Digestive issues – IBS, constipation, reflux, candida
- Respiratory – asthma, coughs, allergies
- Hormonal – particularly menstrual complaints and menopause
- Mental & emotional – anxiety, depression, panic attacks, ADHD, behavioural & learning disorders,
- Acute conditions – flu, coughs, colds, upset stomach
One of the things I love about homeopathy, (and working with people generally) is that there is always something new to learn – which makes it both an interesting and challenging field to work in. With that in mind, I regularly attend a teaching clinic run by Andrew Ward who works closely with one of the most prolific and well known contemporary homeopaths – George Vithoulkas.
My special interest area is in supporting women through pregnancy, childbirth and postnatally. I have completed a year-long course with Denise Tiran (www.expectancy.co.uk), a well-known midwife and lecturer who specialises in using complementary therapies in the field of midwifery.
In addition, I regularly volunteer to support women with infant feeding at the local Baby Café and on the Postnatal ward at Lewisham Hospital. I find this incredibly rewarding.
Where appropriate, I also enjoy working collaboratively with other colleagues here at the Sunflower Centre or elsewhere.
When I started my treatment with Penny, I didn't know what to expect and knew very little about homeopathy. Penny's professionalism and warmth are the elements that, since the very first moment, made me feel in a safe and welcoming space where I could open up about my challenges and issues.
Penny is a very attentive and caring practitioner, her support throughout the time made me feel hopeful about regaining the balanced health I was looking for.
The remedies I have been given have always led to improvements and not only I understood more about my body, the impact of emotions and how to tune with myself properly, but now I reach out to Penny for anything that is related to my health and not necessarily connected to the initial issue I contacted her for.
This is the type of healing for anyone who is interested in a holistic and very compassionate approach.
