Theresa trained at the central London YMCA, qualifying as a Stott Pilates instructor. She teaches Pilates matwork using small pieces of equipment (soft balls, bands, fitness circles); guiding clients through a series of exercises which focus on stabilising the central core.
Pilates helps clients improve their posture, strengthen their back and abdominal muscles, and increase their flexibility. Don’t forget that Pilates is for men too – and many men who have ongoing back issues, or very tight hamstrings, or just find they can no longer fit sport into their schedule find Pilates classes can be very beneficial. Sedentary lifestyles can mean that we begin to lose the range of motion that we once enjoyed; regular Pilates can keep your body moving and working at optimal level.
Theresa’s philosophy for Pilates is that “it’s not a competition!” You are the only person in the class working with the physical limitations of your own body (and any injury you might have), and so don’t compare yourself to others, just focus on your own progress. Theresa is also a practising acupuncturist and is convinced of the benefits of regular exercise in supporting our mental and emotional health, as well as the physical benefits it brings.
