ILAN LEV METHOD - ILM
The Ilan Lev Method (ILM) is a gentle, hands-on somatic approach that works with movement, touch, and the nervous system to support the body’s natural capacity for change, ease, and regulation.
ILM can be supportive for people experiencing pain, injury, chronic tension, stress-related holding patterns, or a general sense of disconnection from their body. It is also used by sports people, dancers, musicians, performers, and anyone wishing to deepen ease, presence, and embodiment.
Sessions are non-invasive, respectful, and attuned to the individual. The pace is slow, responsive, and guided by curiosity, allowing the body’s own intelligence to lead the process.
Rather than treating the body through correction or force, ILM introduces guided movement through the body’s structure while the client is fully clothed and resting on a treatment table. This creates a responsive “dialogue” between practitioner and body, where patterns of tension, holding, and limitation can begin to reorganise in their own time.
At its core, ILM is based on the understanding that movement is a form of information. When the body experiences new, varied, and supported movement, the nervous system can update habitual patterns and discover new possibilities for coordination, balance, and ease. Sessions are therefore not about doing something to the body, but about listening to how the body responds and allowing new options to emerge.
The Ilan Lev Method was developed by bodyworker and former economist Ilan Lev, drawing on his background in reflexology, bio-energy work, and study of the Feldenkrais Method. It emerged through his clinical work with dancers, musicians, and people experiencing pain and functional limitations, evolving as a hands-on approach to movement, nervous system learning, and embodied reorganisation.
